How to prove living in the UK (sole director of own company)

Post by Shazza4001 » Fri Feb 14, 2025 3:39 pm

Hi everyone

I'm an EU citizen with ILR. I have had ILR for nearly 6 years now and have decided to apply for citizenship. I think I have most things lined up, apart from the document asking for proof of living in the UK for 5 years to be included.

This is the guidance provided directly under the tick box that is relevant to my situation:

If you are an EEA National, you need to include letters from employers, educational establishments or other government departments, indicating your presence in the UK during the relevant 3- or 5-year period.

I have been employed throughout this period, but I am the sole Director of my own company. I can issue myself a letter confirming appointment, but I can see this being a problem. I have not studied during this period, so I cannot provide anything related to educational establishments. Does anyone know what the option for ‘other government departments’ refers to? Or can anyone offer any other suggestions as to how to prove this? It states that bank statements or household bills are not suitable proof you have been living in the UK, which I can totally understand.

Many thanks

Many thanks. I have read through the link, but I don't understand how this will help me prove that I have lived in the UK? With an EU passport, I don't have any stamps in my passport. What information will I be asking for?

Entry and exit dates at the border. This is a HO document that will prove when you left/returned in the country.

Thanks - So even though I use the e-Gates at the airport, they will have a record?

They should, yes. I use the eGates and got a SAR and most of my trips were there.

I am also a sole director of my own company. When I applied for naturalisation, I included P60s for the 5 years (the salary I get from my own company as a director). That was enough
