Assistance with BC Application and Related Queries

Post by ChenaiAlbert » Sat Jan 25, 2025 11:40 am

Good day, respected members,

I am preparing to apply for British Citizenship (BC) through an ILR obtained with a Tier 2 visa. However, I have just discovered that my Zimbabwean passport has expired. Could you kindly advise if I need to renew my passport before applying, or can I proceed with the application as I am already residing in the UK?

Additionally, I would appreciate your guidance on whether I need to disclose a traffic offense (IN10) I received over a year ago for driving without insurance, which resulted in a fixed penalty charge of £300.

Thank you for your assistance.

Kind regards,

No. You can use your expired passport to apply.

That is correct. You don't need a valid passport to apply.

HO has access to more than we can see from police records. FPNs don't appear on police records but need to be disclosed regardless.

ILR and naturalisation are separate processes with different rules altogether. I don't know if it would have been required to disclose this for an ILR application or if not having declared it means that you may not have received ILR had the HO known. I am inclined to say no as nothing happened after that, you were not investigated. I think it would be wise to declare it this time rather than risking it and putting yourself through so much anxiety.
