Delay with application for naturalisation of a minor

Post by Macaron12 » Wed Feb 19, 2025 5:24 pm

Hi. My husband applied for naturalisation of our children back in 2022 based on him claiming his Irish ancestry through his grandparents. I received my naturalisation last year. Since acknowledgement in 2023 of the application (about 3 months after it was registered as delivered by An Post), we have heard nothing. He has sent emails asking for any updates and gets the standard response "in process". Last week he wrote a paper letter as the portal is also not working for him following his updated phone number. Still nothing. Is there any recommendation on any next steps - do we just continue to wait (it's been 2 years now since the acknowledgement was received), phone them up (how?), anything else? We have written to our TD..... We have been living here continuously and they have remained in school.

Grateful for any advice! He needs to action it as he sent the application in but thought I'd see if anyone had any suggestions to try to unblock it.

So how long did children live here?

That used to be the normal timeline for citizenship applications before online portal. If you applied by post, you probably have to wait.

Alternatively, you can send an FOI to understand how far they've gone and go from there to file a JR through solicitors/courts, if you wish. The details can be found in this post - https://www.immigrationboards.com/viewt ... 0#p2020380

Hi - thanks for the response! We've been here about 7 years now so the kids easily met the requirements.
We;ll see what the TDs can glean and otherwise try an FOI!
