English language requirements for ILR

Post by AJEE100 » Sun Mar 09, 2025 2:29 pm

Hello All,

I would appreciate a quick response if someone can help.
I am applying for an ILR, 5-year spouse visa route.
To meet the English requirement, we have previously shown degree was taught in English and the UK NARIC certificate, which evaluated the CEFR requirement as C1. I think the requirement of IlR is BI and we should meet it as ours is C1

On the current ILR application, it is asking if you have passed the english test, which we said No and we provided reference number of previous application where we have meet the english language requirements.

My understanding is that we do not need to take the English test as the above fulfils the requirements, but can someone please confirm?
I have copy pasted below what we have written in the ILR application. Can anyone confirm my understanding of the English language requirement is correct and I am filling it out correctly?

English language
Have you provided evidence of your English language ability in a previous application? Yes

Have you passed an approved English language test? No

Are you claiming an exemption from the English language test due to a medical or mental condition? No

Do you have exceptional circumstances that prevent you from taking the test? No

Thank you for your help!

Regards.

The answers you gave on the form are correct, however note that the rules required specific requirements and your old NARIC may not be enough.

Hi Zimba,

Thank you so much for the promot response. As always, you are very helpful.

I have pasted below the evaluation report, this is on page 2 of the NARIC.
Do you think it will suffice, or should I contact Ectiss?

Your UK NARIC evaluation is as follows:
Country of study: xxx
Qualification title:xxxx
Awarding institution:xxxx
Ye a r of award:xxxx
English language level:

UK NARIC has performed an evaluation of your qualification. The level of English
language for the above degree course is considered to meet the requirements of
CEFR level C1
This assessment references the Common European Framework for Languages (CEFR) and is based on UK
NARIC English language research methodology. This includes, but is not limited to, evaluation of qualification
entry requirements and analysis of assessment methodology, national language regulations and qualification
content. For information on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), see:
www.naric.org.uk/cefrlevels
Please note that the year listed may denote the year in which the qualification was completed or the year in which the qualification was conferred to the holder. The date of conferral is usually confirmed on the final certificate and
is when the awarding body formally acknowledges that a student has graduated from the course in question and completed all the established requirements.

I will submit pages 1 and 2 of the UK NARIC, but please advise if you think the above may not be enough.

Best regards and thanks.

You need NARIC 'statement of comparability' to satisfy the rules in addition to the document that shows the level of English.

This is a NARIC sample of 'statement of comparability': https://i0.wp.com/acwcerts.co.uk/web/wp ... C842&ssl=1

Hi Zimba,

Thank you so much, NARIC certificate was issued in 2019.

I have copy-pasted it below page 1, which I think is statement of compatibility you are referring to, format is different from what you have provided

Date of Issue: 18 July 2019
Unique UK NARIC Reference Number: Vxxxxxx
Your UK NARIC evaluation is as follows:
Country of study:India
Qualification title:Bachelor of Computer ApplicationS
Awarding institution: xxxxxxx
Year of award:2010
UK qualification level: Bachelor (Honours) degree

This evaluation derives from careful assessment, based on established UK NARIC methodology, conducted
under our Code of Practice, and referencing UK NARIC qualification data banks, UK qualifications frameworks,
and an independent and objective UK NARIC band framework. More information:
www.naric.org.uk/VisasAndNationality. If you have a query, log-in there using your UK NARIC registration details to message us online - or call +44 (0) 871 330 7033.
Please note that the year listed may denote the year in which the qualification was completed or the year in which the qualification was conferred to the holder. The date of conferral is usually confirmed on the final certificate and is when the awarding body formally acknowledges that a student has graduated from the course in question and completed all the established requirements.

Do you think I should still contact Ectiss ?

We would also like to apply through the priority route, Do you have any idea what time they release the appointments?

Thank you and regards.

It might be. Unless you have the NARIC statement of comparability, the UKVI will NOT accept it. So I suggest to double-check it with Ecctis

Hi Zimba,

I looked at the ecctis website and I think the NARIC statement is enough, but I will still check with them today.

I remember applying through the red route in 2019, which was for visa and nationality services and it is same
if you apply on ecctis website now.

I think they provide below which is the statement for combariblity, see below from eectis website, the statement of comparability is covered by qualification assessment.

Visas and Nationality Services

The Visas and Nationality services support you if you need to evidence the level of your degree and/or your English language proficiency for the UK Home Office.

These services are for you if you are applying for one of the following visas or routes:

https://www.ecctis.com/visasandnationality

Family (including spouse), settlement or citizenship/naturalisation
Skilled Worker
Skilled Work: Health and Care
Start-up and Innovator
Minister of Religion
High Potential Individual
Student Route
There are five Visas and Nationality services available:

Visas and Nationality (English proficiency)
Visas and Nationality (PhD verification)
Visas and Nationality (PhD verification with English proficiency)
Visas and Nationality (High Potential Individual)
Visas and Nationality (High Potential Individual with English Proficiency)
It is important that you carefully read the service descriptions below and apply for the correct service.

WHAT DOES EACH SERVICE INCLUDE?
This is a reference to the information that we provide within these services.

Service Academic Qualification
Level Statement (AQUALS) English Language
Proficiency Statement (ELPS)* Verification of Degree Fast Track Available
Visas and Nationality (English proficiency)

Many thanks for your help.

I already provided my advice on this. You see in the link above that the UKVI asked for the statement of compatibility from someone in the same situation and I pointed out to the rules that make this a requirement. You need to check and ensure what you have is enough

Hi Zimba,

I just spoke to Ecctis, and they confirmed that we need to use the Visa and nationality service. I mentioned to them about the statement of compatibility certificate and if they will be able to provide that, and they advised it is for non-visa purposes.
I also tried to call UKVI but the person on the phone was not very helpful and advised me to check the website.
We will proceed with the application and keep our fingers crossed.

Thank you so much for your help.

As always, your help and the help of Admin and senior members is valuable and always much appreciated.

Regards,
