Travel post ETA Requirement

Post by waleed205 » Mon Apr 14, 2025 2:57 am

Hello

As an ILR and Australian passport holder, can I use eGates at Heathrow? I was able to use it in the past without any issues. But now after ETA requirement, will I still be recognized and allowed to enter from eGate or I would need to see an officer?

NOTE: in my UKVI account, I used the BRP as identity document, if that matters at all..

You should still be able to use the E-gates. Using the E-gates depends on nationality and not status per se!
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!

You don't need an ETA as you have settled status. You will be able to use the eGates as you have done so far.
All advice comes from personal research and experience and should not be regarded as professional opinion.

Thanks for your reply.

I guess my question specifically is when I arrive at the eGate and scan my passport AND I don't have ETA registered for this passport, how will the machicne recognize me as ILR holder? This is my first time to travel after ILR.

You can now register for an eVisa and link it to your UKVI account. The eGates can be used as normal with no issues.

An ETA is not required.

Hi thanks for your reply.

That is exactly my problem, I don't know what link eVisa means, I am struggle with the new system.

In summary, last year I received an invitation to create UKVI account and link eVisa. This is the steps I followed:

- I moved to UK 2019 with Passport1 and got BRP1
- I renewed BRP in 2022 with Passport1, and got BRP
- Last year I renewed my passport and got Passport2, then a month later I got the invitation to create UKVI account and eVisa.
- I can't remember how it went but I followed the instructions step by step. I did not use Passport2 at all, I recall registering with BRP2 only.
- Now when I login to "prove my immigration status" I use my BRP2 number and date of birth and get. code.
- Now when I click on update UKVI account, similarly I use BRP2 number and date of birth and get. code. Here when I look at Identity Docs I only see BRP2 information.

When I applied for ILR, I used Passport2 during my application. When it was approved, I used the same old way to login with BRP2 (although technically invalid) and it worked and saw (and still can see) SETTELLED.

So my humble question, what am I missing (if any)? Please advise

Apologies for long question

That shouldn't affect your ability to continue using the eGates. It has nothing to do with an ETA requirement either.

Many have reported problems with their UKVI accounts/eVisas and they travel with no issues. Also expired BRPs (the card) can be used until 01/06/2025 for travelling.

See: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/online-immi ... vi-account

If the problem persist, report it to UKVI.
