travel after applying for naturalization / absence

Post by rommy » Thu Apr 24, 2025 11:34 am

Good Moring all,

I have got few questions about my wife upcoming ILR and naturalization application. She is currently on spouse visa and she will complete her five years in beginning of 2026.

My wife will be eligible for ILR from 14/01/2026 and we are hoping to apply straight away. Depending on how long it takes for her ILR to approve, we are planning to apply for her naturalization after 18/03/2026 as she returned to UK from holidays 3 years ago on 18/03/2023.

We also have an important function coming up at end of March or beginning of April. As I understand we can pay for priority service for ILR application (£500 fee?). But there is no such option available for naturalization. Is that correct?

Alternatively can she travel after we have applied for her naturalization and her application is pending? Is there any time limit how long she can be away for?

We are hoping to be away for couple of months as this will be the last holiday before kids start going to school and we want to spend some time with family back home.

Thank you

Alternatively can she travel after we have applied for her naturalization and her application is pending? Is there any time limit how long she can be away for? She can travel after attending her biometrics appointment. Naturalisation is not an immigration application.

We are hoping to be away for couple of months as this will be the last holiday before kids start going to school and we want to spend some time with family back home. This length of time is perfectly fine.

Thank you
