Am I Eligible to apply for Permanent Visa?

Hello Everyone,

I hope this is the right section to ask about my Visa Situation.

I entered UK on 14th January 2001 as the student. I have been studied UNTIL April 2005 and I had student Visa up to Jan 2006. But I had a Job and I applied a work permit(commercial WP), home office gave me Jul 2005 to Jul 2010 for WP Visa.

Between that period I went back to my country one in every year for couple of days about 20 days. All Visa Stamp are all done in UK.

I had another job recently about 5 months ago and I let home office know and reapply the Work Permit because I have changed the new job. So then, I have reveived a letter about they have been permitted Work Permit for my NEW job and they said I will continue to have VISA until Jul 2010 but they want me to resend my passport to restamp it or something.

However I went back home last month and I brought all the document from home office WP letter to my Country. I took them all to British Embassy in my country and get the WP stamp because that will take process quicker in my Country. My Original WP stamp said 'Resident Permit' and I got another stamp NOW with 'Entry Clearance' on it and it said valid until Jul 2010.

Now, I have been here in UK for nearly 10 YEARS and I can apply for Permanent Visa end of this year, is that correct?

A friend of mind told me that I can't apply the Permanent Visa because of I am getting new STAMP from out side UK.

What shall I do? Shall I worry?
