Name change on recently issues EEA2 Resident card

Post by AncientAlien » Mon Apr 13, 2009 10:50 am

Hi All

I have a serious problem that has been troubling me for a very long time and I would appreciate if anyone has a good suggestion on this matter.
I was brought up in a happy Jesus-loving christian family in West Africa, all my family members have a Christian name except me :( and I was very jealous as I grew up. Therefore I decided that I will change my African name (not AncientAlien) to a Christian name when I grow up.
Now that I am grown, I called HO, after 'hearing' that my RC application was successful, to find out what I have to do to change my name on my passport as well as on the recently issued Resident card. Guess what the HO told me, huh?
I was told that I would have to obtain a brand new passport from my country's consular office in London, then I would have to apply ALL OVER AGAIN for the EEA2 resident document stating my new names etc
I was so shocked, to hear that I would have to go through all this LONG process just to have my religious name added. Well, that is too big a price to pay, so I have decided to stay with my African names until when I am ready to apply for EEA4 (in 5 yrs time).
It is just so unfortunate, I really want my christian name. Moreover, I was also thinking that I call myself (in the forums) AncientAlien because I have been on this immigration journey for so long. Now that I have got the modern EEA2 Resident Card, I wish to be henceforth refered to as the ModernAlien :D
All forum user, please take note. And I look forward to your advise
Happy Easter Holiday

As has been advised by the UKBA, you will need to put in a fresh EEA2 application with your new passport.

Unnecessary, I know, but that's the current process.

My advice? Just hold out until you need to apply for permanent residence.
