Family Visitor Visa query...

Hello

I have a Tier 1 General visa valid till Sept 2011 and wife have a Tier 1 Dependent visa. We want to apply for a Family visit visa for our new born baby as our current visibility in UK is around 6 months with a possibility of further extension of stay (if things go right). This is the reason I am thinking of a Family visitor visa for my baby instead of a Tier 1 Dependent. Also the application fees is INR 50000 is the second reason as applying from India.

I wanted to know if this is acceptable or the visa office would think otherwise?
Can I make a Tier 1 Dependent application for her from within the UK. Is this allowed because she would be switching from Family visitor to Tier 1 dependant ?
Can the family visitor visa be requested to be valid for longer than 6 months (i.e. Long term multiple entry for 1 or 2 years) ?
