ILR apply in person vs. sending by post

Post by Kelvin » Wed Apr 22, 2009 10:59 am

Hi guys,

I've been reading lots of threads in this forum and had the impression that most of the guys would prefer to apply in person when it comes to ILR. I am wondering what advantage it can give over that of sending by post ? Is it really worth paying extra 200 pounds to do it ? Of course, I don't mean the processing time as I know some people just can't afford to wait for extra one or two months time.

Can anybody shed light on this ?

Thanks / Kelvin

Hi Kelvin,

In person application is a premium service. The advantage of it is, you can explain any descrepancy in your application (or any doubt ) to case worker on the spot which is not the case in postal application. Your passport will get stamped on the spot but the waiting time for this is bit high; which is diluting the importance of this scheme.

Waiting time for postal application is 6-14 weeks, depending on your application, after HO receives you application. whereas waiting time for In-person service is over 6 months as posted by other forumite.

Hi Chetanojha,

I take the over 6 months waiting time you were talking about is the queue for booking an in-person appointment, isn't it ? Or is it the waiting time after the interview before you get your passport back ?

Thanks / Kelvin

Six Months waiting time is really depressing and annoying and it might get worse in the next a few months.

Can anybody who was HSMPians have got ILR share out your experience on this ?

Thanks / K.

I'm getting really worried if it would take 6 months time in either way so I might not be able to schedule my holiday in advance for this Christmas.

Some people in this forum are told to keep calling HO untill they receive an appointment. You can do the same. As there are lot of people calling it seems.
