Renewing passport

Post by silvia » Wed Apr 22, 2009 10:10 pm

Hello,

I am new to this board. I am an Italian citizen married to a U.S. citizen and he is in the UK on a 5 year EEC1 (Non-EEA family members of EEA) marriage visa. The visa was issued almost 4 years ago now.

The problem is my husband's passport is expiring in the next month, and we cannot find in any way what you are supposed to do about the visa once you get the new passport. Do you have to reapply for a new visa even though there is time left on the old one? Or is there a way to transfer the visa to the new passport?

We tried contacting both the home office and the U.S. embassy with no replies. If anyone has had this problem before it would be great help to us to know what you did.

Cheers!
Silvia

Applying under European law wrote:Transferring a residence card or stamp

If you are issued with a new passport and you want us to transfer your residence card or family member residence stamp into the new passport, you will need to make a new application. You should complete the appropriate application form and provide the required supporting documents.

Thank you Vinny!

You can't imagine how many websites I've been through without finding anything. That is annoying though, as it probably means another 6 months without passports :(
