I will be studying in Scotland from September 21, 2009 to January 20, 2010. I will be traveling in England for 9 weeks over the summer, then visiting family in Germany and Holland. Is it possible to apply for a student visa in the US (my home country) before going to England, go to England just as a tourist (no visa), go to Germany for a few weeks, and then go to Scotland with my student visa? From what I understand, visas can be postdated by 3 months, so if I applied exactly 3 months from when I will fly into Scotland, I should be okay, right? (Would it be cutting it too close to only leave a week-and-a-half from when I apply to when I depart to travel? I know I need to get biometric data as well, but I heard that is quick.) Thanks so much, and please let me know if you want me to clarify any of this.
