Yeah it would be cool. In particular, towards the drawing up of the new "Earning citizenship" legislation (fingers crossed).

Jeff,

Do you know how "earning citizenship" legislation would opearte in a nut shell :?

Has it been tabled anywhere or is it similar to the "regularisation scheme"?

Yes of course. I use my engineering talant to figure out that if a person who has worked in this country (especially in skilled category) irrespective of his capacity for more than say 8 years he gets an automatic right to remain indefinitely. Basically after paying tax for several years you earn your right to become a citizen.

yes it is somewhat similar to "earned regularisation". I think we should drop to Mr McNulty a few hints in his early days, to help him stand right on track, don't you think?

I think Governments in the EU should take a unified approach. I understand Spain recently regularised the stay of nearly 700,000 souls

Good idea. I think we should add a category where every user can add their comments what in their view can be done in order to improve the immigration system and make it more "human" rather than robotic. Then the ideas can be sent to the Ministers.

Re Spain I think our ministers are really concerned about this example and fear they may come under pressure to introduce something similar here, however, I think Spanish example is not good enough because they have regularised everyone without making the distinctions between the real system abusers and the ones who deserved to be legalised. The UK cannot afford this.
