Applying for ILR - Partner not working - is it a problem?

Post by gamma911 » Mon Jul 13, 2009 7:47 pm

HI guys

I'm due to apply for my ILR in the next few days - I have all my documents in order I think, but I have a question about my Civil partner. He's not currently working but I am ( we are hoping to set up a business soon ) - will this have an effect on my application? We have savings and I'm earning 24k a year, which we are surviving on quite fine.

Do I need anything else to prove we are surviving other than my payslips, p60 and statements?

He may start claiming job seekers allowance ( because he's entitled to it at the moment ) and I gather this won't be a problem? I am going to tick that he's not claiming at the moment.

Any advise?

Firstly, your ILR application is not depedent on your partner's economic status, but yous. You do not even have to include your partner's economic activity if he hasn't got one.

Secondly, depending on your partner's immigration status, I will suggest he wait till you both have your ILR application approved before he starts to claim JSA unless he has no immigration control presently on his immigration status.
