Child Benefit Approved on HSMP??

Post by sthakran » Fri Jul 24, 2009 7:21 pm

Hi There,

I have a situation. I am on HSMP visa, and my wife on HSMP dependent visa. Recently we had a child, we received Child Benefit form in the Bounty pack from NHS hospital. The guidelines mentioned... you MAY not be eligible if you are subjected to immigration control. Since It did not clearly say, I am not eligible, I sent a query to Child Benefit Office. They replied back that I should send my application, and they will make the appropriate decision.... So I sent my form, and started receiving the Child Benefit once it was approved. Though my wife's application for Pregnancy Grant was denied based on subject to immigration control

I would like to know .. if I am really entitled for Child Benefit or this has been a mistake. I am conscious and would not like any problems during my HSMP - Tier 1 extension application.

Please advise

Regards

New Zealanders living in UK- Child benefit

Post by brettandmaree » Tue Jul 28, 2009 10:23 pm

Apparently there is a reciprocal agreement for NZers living in the UK- it is available on the home office website dated July 2007- There is the possibility that NZers can get child benefit (and some other distinct countries) - can I suggest reading of this document- We are also HSMP and NZers and have not claimed child benefit for the last 3.5 years -but have only just discovered this document- would value anyones thoughts-

First entry if you google

home office new zealanders july 2009 reciprocal child benefit

Thanks

sthakran, can you post details of your nationality, and that of your wife as well?

Also, prior to coming to the UK, if either of you worked in another country, apart from that of your nationality, please get details.
John
