Hi,
I'm hoping someone here can help me. A bit of background info...
I've accepted a permanent position in the health service here in Ireland. I have been in Ireland for the past two years and have had two work permits. I was planning on applying for a green card, however on reading the guidance notes this week have discovered that since May 2009 my profession (SLT) has been taken off the selected professions list for people earning under €60,000.
This has now caused me some distress as current processing times for work permits is 12 - 13 weeks (as opposed to green cards which is 3 - 4weeks). My current work permit expires in the middle of Nov and my mum is coming to visit me at the same time and we were planning on visiting Austria while she is here. Due to delays in being offered the permanent position it is unlikely that my new work permit will be issued in time now. If we do go to Austria I'll be coming back to Ireland with 1 day left before my current work permit expires. Is this going to cause me trouble at the border? Will they give me a tourist stamp meaning I won't be able to work until the new work permit comes through or is there a possibility they won't let me enter at all? If they won't let me re-enter the county we'll have to rethink our holiday plans.
I'm going to ring the appropriate dept on Monday but just thought I would ask here first to see if anyone can put my mind at ease so I can get some sleep!
Thanks,
Meldives
