PSW visa and getting married. What is the best option?

Post by RaviTah » Mon Sep 14, 2009 10:17 pm

Dear All,
I really need some proper advice to decide the best way to go about my situation. I am Indian and a MSc student in the UK, and I will get my results in December 2009, after which I will be eligible to apply for a Tier 1 PSW visa.
I have the funds and everything in place (£800+533)
I want to get married to my gf who who is from another country than mine (Iran). I would like her to be able to come here with me once we get married.
The question I have is, when is it better to get married, before applying for a PSW visa or after and how to go about the process. And how much time does all this require.
I have been reading several posts and forums as well as the UK border agency website, but am completely lost.
Please help, so that I do everything the right way.
Thank you,
Ravi

Quite possible after you get PSW, because she will only get leave to the end date of your leave. It all depends.

What about getting married within the next month, will that help my situation?

I cannot see that it would effect your student visa that you have at the moment.

I believe you might be travelling out for your marriage. I don’t see any reason or any issues with your wife’s visa provided you read UKBA website regularly any comply with all the rules. If you get married before your graduation, you can hold your wife’s application until you get your PSW visa because she will get same duration of visa as yours, if not than she will have to apply again when you will apply for your PSW as a dependent and you will have to pay the visa fees again!

I don't think there could be much problem with wathever way u choose to bring in yr woman. Thousands have brought in spouses on student or psw visas.. so, if u'r convinced d 'LADY' is 4 u, to share yr rights, here in uk, (based on diffrnt race, u said) things should just be fine. Just follow the requirements under any of the category u choose. OK?

So if I understand correctly, I can get married either before or after as long as I have my paper work in order and comply with the rules.
My student visa expires in Jan 2010.
Will it be a problem if I get married in November 2009 and apply for PSW in December???
Thank you so much for your answers, really appreciate it.

If you get married in November and get married outside UK, you may be asked some questions while returning as you would have very less duration of visa. But it all depends.

If you apply for PSW after marriage, you can send papers of your wife with your application.

It is part of the rule that u have at least 6months visa to bring in a spouse on student visa!. Authomatically, u are left with psw except u want to renew yr student visa... 8)

I would say get your PSW first and then think about getting married later.
