Hi I am australian and came to dublin on a working holiday visa for 1 year, during that year I met my current girlfreind, when my visa was due to expire I was unsure of what choices i had as we are a gay couple and have no rights really.. well as i know now we can apply for a defacto visa. yay!! But to make life difficult I overstayed my working holiday visa by 10 months. I went home after those 10 months and returned for 75 days (within the 90 day visit restriction) and I moved to .. Newry UK (I have a UK ancestry visa). Newry is ok but after 3 years being with my girlfriend we naturally want to be together and move in together. I hardly see her, once a week if that and recently i was sick and i have no friends or family up here to look out for me, my job pays £188.00 a week and I've no hot water!
History aside, we are a loving committed couple and both have jobs, both educated to university level, both honest and good people. Will immigration deny my application because I overstayed my working holiday visa? Also will they enforce some sort of ban on me getting a visa? Is it worhtwhile getting a solicitor? Also how mush does this visa cost?

Any advice will be great thank you. :D

I've been looking into the de facto relationship for EU1 as my girlfriend is Dutch and has been living in Ireland for 12 years at this point. Her parents moved here when she was 12.

Anyway, we have thought about seeking advice from a solicitor as we have been together for more than 2 years, but only have proof of living together for just over a year as part was long distance and me here as a visitor. I've seen estimates of 180e for just the initial consultation with a solicitor. During the consultation they'll give you a breakdown of fees. Not sure what that breakdown is though, but the consultation might be worth it.
