After UK Visa Refused

Post by picosam » Fri Oct 16, 2009 10:25 pm

Hello all,

I hold an Egyptian passport with 5 Schengen visas, 3 issued from France and 2 from Belgium, the latest Belgian visa being valid until November 30th. Back in Egypt, I tried applying for a visitor visa to the UK but got refused because:

1. They were unable to asses my income or employment status since the bank statements given were in a foreign language - in my case I submitted bank statements from my French account, that proves a consistent income of 3000 euros a month on average; my fault, not translated.

2. I didn't supply the family names and immigration status of people whom I claimed to know in the UK. Again, my fault, I didn't care much on supplying the last name of one of the 3 people I knew simply because he's a friend of a friend and we're on first term basis.

I admit I was careless, and I'm willing to apply again. The questions are:

1. Do I have a chance to apply for the same visa from France, where I am at the moment?
2. Do you think it would be accepted if I submit the exact same application, along with the previous refusal letter, a letter explaining why I'm applying from France, along with the translated bank statements and signed letters from my friends in the UK?

Thank you,
Sammy

1) Yes
2) You also need to show that you have no reason to overstay in the UK or work here, so links to back home, house, work, family etc.

Highly unlikely you would be granted a visa from France, unless you hold resident status there and are not just visiting.

That's not generally true - see this from the advice on the UK Visas website:-

"You can apply for a visit visa or EEA family permit at any visa application centre overseas. For all other types of visa, you should apply in the country of which you are a national or where you are living."

However, in the OP's case, an ECO in Paris might be reluctant to grant him a visit visa when he's just been refused in Cairo.

Thank you all for your replies.

Even if I attach the previous refusal letter and a letter written by myself explaining why I'm re-applying from France (since I'd already planned to leave Cairo and I had purchased a plane ticket beforehand) and if I resubmit the application with the exact same kind of information?

I mean, it's not that I'm really planning to overstay my visa, or provide false documents! I've been to Europe at least 10 times before on Schengen visas, never overstaying my visa, don't they look at this?

Do you have a ticket showing when you will be leaving the UK? That would help you as it shows that you intend to return back to your country. Along with evidence of a job, family, home etc. It's even more important to provide those seeing as you've been rejected not long ago.

A ticket is very easy to purchase online, I can easily do that this moment. As of the job matters, I'm a free lancer. I have a contract with a French enterprise that proves that, and my bank statements clearly show the income from this French company since at least one year. However, it's a French company, and I'm a freelancer, it's not an Egyptian company, and it's not a full time job... even though I would say, thankfully, the pay is much better :D

About family matters, what kind of documents prove that? I don't have property in Egypt, no, I mean, I'm only 29! Would it help if I get my friend (the one whose place I'm staying at) in the UK to fill out a sponsorship application for me or something? I mean, my friends in the UK know for sure that I'm going back, so they would help me out in any way.
