Congratulations neilroy !!, I guess this would be in advance for both...

The letter issued to me by the Home Office when I got my ILR mentions that a child born to the ILR holder since 1 January 1983 could be registered as a BC if s/he is not, and any child born after the ILR date in the UK, would be automatically a BC at birth, provided the ILR holder is still settled. However, if the parents of the child have never been married, BC could be derived from the mother if she is a BC.

As per the above, in your case, if the child is born after you get your ILR, I guess a Birth Certificate will suffise for the child's BC and British Passport. I don't know, but I think the hospital can help you in child registration after birth.

Neilroy, Flash is right, any child born in the UK after you and/or your wife have got your ILR will automatically be British. So armed with the child's birth certificate it will be possible to obtain a British Passport for the child. Needless to say, it will also be necessary to prove your ILR status when the passport application is made.

In some maternity hospitals the Registrar of Births actually attends. But if not then the hospital will certainly be able to give you details of the address of the Registrar. You have six weeks after the birth to register it, although of course do not need to wait that long.
