Visa required for my wifes daughter to join us in uk?

Post by pscomp » Sun Oct 25, 2009 6:06 pm

Hi there,

I have been married to my wife for 10 years, she has indefinate stay in the UK and her 18 year old daughter from South Africa would like to come and stay / work with us. Can anyone tell me what type of visa she will require to be able to do that? she wants to come for at least a year but she would like to study and work while she is here.

Thanks in advance

Peter

Tier 4 would be the easiest one but you will have to pay tuition fees and she cannot work more than 20 hours during term time. In fact i would guess that is your only option for her to able to do all of the above as i doubt that she'd be qualified enough to qualify for tier 1 or 2.

For work she would need a visa on her own merits, ie tier1 or 2 work visa, unlikely given her age, or 20 hr work provision on a student visa for which you/her would need to show around £20k or so up front.

Other option is six month visit visa, no work but can study (expensive tho).
