Bank statements

Post by dazzle » Thu Nov 19, 2009 12:28 pm

Hello all,

I have a question regarding the 6 months bank statements required for submission of a visa application.

I have been out of the UK for some time, and only bank using internet banking. There are no branches of my British bank in the place where I currently live.

So, I've heard that they do no accept internet banking printouts as proof of finances, unless certified by the bank (not possible in my case).

I do have a local bank account, which I have official statements for the past 3 months. I can include them, but there is not much cash in them, as my salary is withdrawn immediately each month for transfer to the UK. Also, these transfers take the form of cash deposits in my UK account, which I have also heard is not looked favourably upon.

Any suggestions? Will they even look at the online printout if it isn't certified?

I only have online banking, i downloaded the PDF's of my monthly statements online and then printed them on a colour printer, they looked exactly like originals apart from a watermark that said "duplicate" through the background. Our visa was granted without any questions regarding finances.

If that isn't possible, you could call your bank and ask them to post to you the 6 months statements.

Thanks andyb123

The problem with them sending the statements via courier, is that the place where I am temporarily staying does not have a building number or name. It is what you might refer to as a shanty town. Therefore I will have to get them delivered to a PO box. Can you see the problem with me sending bank statements to a privately owned PO box in a region where fraud is rife? Then again, maybe I can get them delivered to the local DHL office(?). I will find out.

Okay, can someone explain if my UK statements are actually necessary

I have been an expatriate for nearly 2 years and my salary has since been sent to my African bank account. My living expenses have been coming from that account, and my repayments for loans have been originating from there. Also, I already have in my possession bank statements from 3/8/09 to 3/11/09 for this account.

Could I just provide those African account statements. Then to fill the gap of the last 3 weeks I could ask my account officer to scan and email the last 3 weeks statement, with a letterheaded confirmation and also internet printouts and my recent payslip (to confirm my most recent salary payment). I am outside my country of residence so cannot readily get orginals for the last 3 weeks, but I could travel if necessary to get them.

Also do I need to provide details of my credit?

The website for the local UK High Commission say this on their web site site, w.r.t supporting documents for settlement visas:

You must provide the following documents:
.......

You can send us the following documents:
.....
"To show that you can support yourselves and any dependants without any help from public funds: It helps if you show evidence that you or your sponsor (or both of you) will be supporting you. This could include evidence of your sponsor's immigration status in the UK, six months' itemized bank statements, evidence of your or your sponsor's savings, your P60, or a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions (if relevant). "

So are the 6 months statements actually necessary, and can we be refused on the basis of only providing 3 months?

Thanks again for all the advice.

if you look elsewhere in the recent posts, someone has just posted up that they have had their visa refused for submitting 3 months statements that are not originals, it's not 100% clear wether it's the originality alone, or the lack of a full 6 months

it does say somewhere on the UKBA website that they suggest you submit 6 months bank statements AND payslips

I did this and my visa was granted, one other person on here didn't do this and their visa was refused. It's up to you if you want to take that risk.

I can only suggest you submit everything you can get your hands on and write in your cover letter the reason you haven't included everything they suggest you submit.
