questions!!

Post by caraanne » Mon Jul 25, 2005 3:56 am

Hi,
I was wondering If anyone could help me. I'm a New Zealander and have recently married an Irish man I am currently studying in New Zealand but my husband has been transfered in his job to belfast. I would like to go with him and continue my studies there but cannot afford the fees for a forign student. Am I entitiled to EU status being married or will this take time?
Thank you
Cara

You need to be in the EU/UK at least three years before qualifying as an EU student, so full fees would be payable if you become a student on the UK in the foreseeable future.

If your husband has an Irish passport and is living and working in Belfast, part of the UK, then you are entitled to get a UK-issued EEA Family Permit which will confirm your ability to live and work in the UK without needing any sort of Work Permit. Or indeed study in the UK, subject to payment of the overseas scale of fees.
