Self employment question

Post by latch » Fri Feb 05, 2010 10:49 pm

First, I have a business name I work with privately, for which I plan to apply for the tier 1 with, however someone told me I have to use a limited company. Is this true?

Second, I'm on a dependant visa. Does that allow me to register and run a limited company?

Whether you work through a limited company structure or as an employee or in some other fashion is not a problem as long as you can provide valid documentary evidence(s) to prove your earnings - as specified in the Tier 1 (General) policy guidance. So, as already suggested read the guidance carefully.

Did anyone tell you otherwise?

I believe you can, as long as your visa has no work restrictions endorsed.
No harm in checking with HMRC.

You can! but as far as I know you have to leave country and apply for EC from your home country whenever you switch into a main category

There is tax advantage in case of limited company , transfer of international money is easy in LTD company compare to sole trader
