Self Employment Company

Hi All,

Is it necessary to register a company for self employment? I am currently working as self-employed and registered with HMRC, do i still have to register name of company? i.e. ABC LTD ? or it's sufficient to be reg with HMRC and i can use any name of company on papers ? I spoke to my accountant about this and he said you don't have to register your company's name, you can put ABC LTD or XYZ LTD on papers but tax documents will be made on my own name.

It's not necessary to register as a sole trader but I'm sure you can't use a limited company name when you're not a limited company
you're a sole trader and normally sole traders have businesses in their own name (not a company name)

How about using your own name? since the tax document would be in your name not a limited company name?

yeah you can.
i mean if you registered yourself with HMRC what name did you use, because the word limited is only for limited companies. you could use Barrak Hussain Obama IT Services (considering you are providing IT services)

I gave my name Barack Hussain Obama and want to use name as B H Obama Computers. I think this should be fine.

This is a tax issue. If someone is doing contract work then the companies they hope to get work from will usually insist that you operate through a Limited Company.

Why? To make it totally clear that you are not their employee, and therefore they are not liable for PAYE or NIC on the amounts they pay.
