Please Help Need To Clear This Doubt

Hello Guys,

We are married and Working in IT.

Due to unstable atmosphere in IT we want to apply seprately for HSMP, we are eligible gaining points (65) without Spouse Achievement.(Assuming) If any unforseen situation comes up then still he/she can work on any one of us as dependant status.

We know that dependant can join and also work in UK.

My question on above facts.


Can a married couple apply HSMP individually and apply EC individually and work in UK on individual HSMP status?

What will be the situation while 1 year extension do we have to disclose at the time of extension about marriage and make dependent on one of us?


What will be the situation after 3 yrs extension? Do we get individual PR or we have to make one PR dependent on one of us?

Reading your post it sounds, rightly or wrongly, that you also fear an "unstable atmosphere" in your marriage? So neither spouse wants to be dependent upon the other? Or is it just that you fear that the two of you might end up with jobs in different countries?

Anyway, no one is forced to be a dependent of their spouse. Or use their spouse to get a few more points under the HSMP scheme. So yes, the two of you could make totally separate applications, and thus be treated totally separate throughout the whole process ... initial HSMP application ... getting EC ... getting extension under HSMP ... etc etc.

If you both have the points to get your own HSMP and you have the money to pay for two application fees, it's probably a good idea for you each to apply. The reason why I think it's a good plan is because you double your odds that you'll get an HSMP--because hopefully if one is rejected, the other will be approved. And... once you're in the country working, in the event that you both get HSMPs of your own, then if one doesn't find a job during the first year, the other partner could add you as a dependent. So, it is a pretty good insurance policy if you really want to settle in the UK.

Hello All,

I wish to thank to John and Rella for their immidiate reply.

We are skeptical about the job market in computer field, so just wish to have a smooth process towards Extension & PR. According to your suggestions,we feel that separate HSMP applications for both of us would be a better & safer way as we really wish to settle in UK.

If anyone has some more ideas, please feel free to share with me.
