Unfortunately, as it's not a family visit application, you have limited rights of appeal. However, given your friend success, you may try asking the ECO/ECM for reconsideration.

You would have to mention the refusal whenever you apply for any future visa to any country ( i think that you would have to mention it for a period of 10 years or something since an application form usually asks u to mention any refusals in the last 10 years). I dont see this causing any problems in your future applications since you haven't been banned or something..
