Moving to Switzerland

Post by nao » Tue Jul 27, 2010 1:38 pm

Guys

I am not sure whether this section is the best place to put my enquiry but please advise below if you can

I am thinking moving to Switzerland (I will stay my gf flat)
I am a british citizen granted in May 2010, been working (I changed my job few times) continuously for 8yrs.
Basically I need to look for a job over there, but a cuple of months I will be going to language school too.
Please advise what i should do before I leave

1: Can I apply for Job seeker allowance while I am abroad? If so how? or I should not ?
2: Can I get a sort of Tax refund because I leave this country ? If so how
3: I don't own any property so Technically I will be NFA in the UK when I leave the UK. what should I do with Driving Licence / Banck account etc....I will be staying my gf house hoping to find a job there but I might not register myself as a resident. Shall I just keep my old address ? (I can check my letter etc with my house mate but obviously I dont pay rent anymore though....

4: If any.

I am 35yrs old it might be hard to take new challenge but life is only once and I am a painter if you know what I mean ..
encourage me !!

Thanks

Thanks

I do not know much about the specifics but here a few thoughts and links.

For Job seekers allowance abroad check this page. I doubt that you could get a tax refund, why would you? If you have a UK driving license I guess it will be accepted in CH. You will most likely need a new bank account but if a UK based one also operates in CH that may be helpful. Depending on Swiss law you will have to register your residence/unemployment and after three months you would have to apply for a residence permit.

And checkout http://www.englishforum.ch - invaluable for those (like me!) seeking a life in CH!
