relocating to UK - bringing in cash

Post by marcbreathnach » Thu Sep 02, 2010 8:27 pm

hi all,
What are the experiences of people who have moved to the UK and had to bring cash (above the ten thousand Euro limit, approx eight thousand pounds). I am relocating from abroad and can't open a bank a/c until I'm there so have to bring my savings in bankers draft and cash. About 20 thousand pounds in total, i have bank statements and payslips and documents for every penny. Im moving from a non-EU country (the Cayman Islands). Thanks.

Moving to or working in the UK?

Think how much easier the transition will be if you arrive with a bank account that is designed around your needs.

While you may be happy with your local bank, the fact is, it is just that: local. On the other hand, a UK-only bank will service your needs when you are in the UK, but what about beyond that?

The solution is a bank that sees no borders. One that operates almost anywhere, and can help with offshore requirements so you can maximise tax benefits.

In short, you need a service that takes an all-round view of your requirements and not an organisation that treats banking, investment and tax planning as separate things.

That is what we aim to provide at Barclays Wealth International. While the key component of what we offer is an international bank account, we also provide access to savings, investment management, wills and estate planning services.

So if you are moving to the UK, why not contact us and see how we can help?

Our fast application process means it is even possible to open your account before you arrive.
Good intentions are appreciated but results are what matters..

Moving to work, how long does it take to open a regular checking/current a/c with Barclays as my drafts are drawn on Barclays? How long for a credit card? not interested in pensions, life insurance or any of that.

I think to remember that my "pack" which has account, check book, visa debit with £ 1000 over draft, Barclays Gold Visa credit card with £ 2500 credit limit took aprox 2 weeks to arrive.

However, you can start the process on the web and have a response as to if they can open the account in 20 min.

Many thanks,
eldanes
