Naturalisation Now or Next Year?

Post by theyearoftheshnitzel » Tue Sep 21, 2010 12:01 pm

Hi experts,

I recently received my ILR after four years on HSMP/Tier 1 (granted in 2006). On my confirmation form given to me at the PEO in Croydon it states my ILR is valid from April 2010 as that was when I was eligible to apply.

I am now very confused as to when I am eligible for naturalization. I originally came to the UK on a working holiday visa for two years. This was in 2004. So I have lived and worked here (pretty much at the same job) for the past six years legally. Would this mean I could apply for naturalization sooner? or would I have to wait for twelve months after my ILR approval date?

In summary...
2004 - April - Working Holiday Visa for two years.
2006 - April - Changed to HSMP
2007 - Changed to Tier 1
2010 - April (Actual application date was in August) - Indefinite Leave to Remain

Many Thanks
Steven

Unless you are married to a British citizen you can apply for naturalisation only after 12 months of being granted ILR.
