In person appointment for Tier 1 extension + Agent / Solicit

I am planning to apply for Tier 1 extension in person. I just don’t want to send my passport to a back hole for few months and wait for it to return.

Two questions.

1. I am unable to get appointments online for Tier 1 in the next two months. Is there a specific time at which appointment slots are released? If so when?

2. Is it possible to go through an agent or solicitor and get a faster appointment? Any experiences with these?

Other info:
Currently in UK
Tier 1 expires in Mid 2011
I have enough points required for extension.
