British Citizenship - Naturalisation application soon

Hello All,

It has been a while since I have posted.

I am now starting my final run towards my goal of Naturalisation (Apply on the 9th March 2006) and this is the progress so far:

1. Have my "Life in the UK" test on Monday 30 Jan. (Will keep u posted on result)

2. Waiting for letter from British Nationality Division to state that I have NOT yet aquired British citizenship - this is to retain my South-African nationality.

3. Getting all my docs ready for when I apply in March, which brings my to my question.

I am applying on the bases of 4 year work permit and 1 year ILR but I cant find all my P60s all my moving over the past years has taking its toll on Docs. I have a lot of pay-slips but not all again.

So my question at last: are these P60's of absulote importance? I have never not paid taxes as it is dealt with by empoyer.

Have you downloaded the Form AN(NEW) and the accompanying guide? If not, click here to do so.

I ask that question because if you have downloaded it, would you like to post about where the form or the guide refers to the need to supply P60s?

Yes there is a box for you to enter your NINO, and yes there is a box where you enter your tax reference, and those pieces of information certainly enable IND to check out your records, but there is no need to supply things like P60s.

Hello John, long time since we have spoken.

Anyhow, I have indeed downloaded and read this so I do know about the none requirement. The only reason I raised this was, because I would read previous posts and member would take P60's with them to make sure it their application is a complete as possible.

And like always I would go into panic mode and worry (I know i shouldnt)

There is no need for P60s etc. and I would argue supplying unnecessary documentation is likely to slow down rather than speed up your application.

P60s simply indicate your earnings and (to an extent) tax liabilities for a year and the fact that you were in employment. The naturalisation application does not ask you to give any indication of your earnings. What the IND are interested in ( in this context) is the "good character" requirement i.e do you pay tax on time. The P60 does not reveal this but a simple lookup on the inland revenue system by the IND based on your NINO can give them that information in a few seconds. The P60 adds little, if any, value to the naturalisation process.

Remember that you can be unemployed and be naturalised so not every applicant will even have a P60.

Has anyone done this before and how long did it take to send a letter?
