Visiting UK as Spouse for holiday

Post by anna101 » Thu Nov 11, 2010 12:16 am

Hi Everyone,

I US citizen married to UK citizen for 7yrs, he was removed from US and now resides back in the UK. I am hoping to visit him very soon and believe I can stay in the UK for up to 6 months on vacation without a Visa and will be ineligable to work during this time is this still correct?

I am also currently unemployed and hubby says he will pay the costs of me staying in the UK whilst also saving up so that I can return to the US in Apr/May and apply for a spousal visa so I can return for longer with rights to work.

I am worried that if I arrive with a ticket valid for 6 months that the entry clearance officer will be curious as to how I can support this vacation, can I provide a letter of support to customs / entry clearance confirming where I will be staying, how I will be supported along with my husbands bank statements which show no savings, only his income? Any other suggestions welcome, I have visited the UK to see him last year and was able to produce a letter from my employer to prove I would return to the US after my visit, I cannot do this now as I am no longer in work...please help

Similar to visitors to the USA, you should show strong ties to outside the UK (i.e. USA).
