Strange!

How come a Nurse or Dentist are accepted and listed as professional persons, and a GP is not considered or listed as a professional person!

I think the HO should redefine the term "professional".

Isn't it the list of examples only though?
IMHO it is not the definitive list.
My refs' professions are not explicite on the list, yet my app has been accepted.

No it's not true - Both my referees were doctors and my application was approved in Oct 2010. This list was last updated in June. May be home office thinks that most people would naturally consider doctors as professionals and that in need not be mentioned explicitly.

Doctors were taken off not because they are'nt proffesionals but because they asked to be taken off as some of them had too many forms too sign and they fely it was not what they were paid to do!

A doctor refereed my application made on 14/04/2011 and it was approved!

I enquired with NCS and they accept doctors as referees. She clearly told me that even though the list does not mention doctors, it is not an exhaustive list and they DO accept doctors. The moderator should change the headline slightly lest many people will get worried unnecessarily.

Likewise, I've been told by the call handler on UKBA telephone enquiry helpline that doctors can indeed still act as referees.

DOCTORS can act as referees. All my referees are doctors including my passport application. General medical council requested UKBA to remove doctors from the list so that they won't be pressurised for reference and to reduce unneccessary work load. So that GP's & hospital doctors can refuse if they don't want to. Hope this helps

The status quo, ie doctors accepted, remains. I just got my approval today, having applied late June. Both referees are doctors.

I got my approval on 27th August 2013 and my referee was a doctor. My referee knew me personally for more than 3 years rather than knowing me as a patient. This makes the difference in UK passport application as they say you can use doctor as a countersignatory as long as he or she knows you personally rather than as a patient.

Can I use manager of limited company as professional reference as its included in the list tho for naturalization

I need to send my application for BN. My company manager (who know me for three years and is British) happy to give me her reference. I am now struggling for second reference. Can my collegue, who is british but not professional and she is over the age of 25 can give me second referee reference? Please advice

Unfortunately, the above three mentioned know him professionally, but they denied signing in. The reference guide does not mention that witnesses should know us or him for two years.
I don't know what to do now. please can you suggest me your views?

I have used a British family friend and religious minister as referees. Religious minister only knew me not the my daughter and that is exactly what he mentioned on the form and I didn't have any problem.

We don't know any religious minister. The Dentist know us for more than 3 years, since I used to take my elder kids to him for check up. But he denied because he knows my husband as his patient since last year. What am I supposed to do?

Find someone professional who knows you. Referee does not have to know the kid directly. As long he/she knows parent is good enough.
Any register driving instructor, teacher? co worker or neighbour?

I am looking for the link/list of current professionals who are qualified to be (british or otherwise) as a referee on a Naturalisation form. I am due NCS appointment on 3rd March. Can a co worker okay to sign (of course one who has know me for x years)?

Doctors are DEFINITELY accepted as referees.

I used 2 doctors as referees for my Citizenship application and it was approved with no problems.

I believe the issue here is that the doctors are only prepared to act as referees for someone they know personally or as a professional colleague, not someone who is only known to them as a patient.

Hi,
I am applying for BC for my 2.2 year daughter under MN1 section 1 (3) and I am really struggling to get the professional reference.
My GP is happy to provide the reference, but she is not a British citizenship.
Please let me know whether they will consider my GBP reference as a professional reference
