Relocating to South Africa with a foreign Spouse

Hi

can someone please help. I want to go to South Africa with my husband who is currently in Uganda- He is ugandan and I am South African. We want to go and see if we can live there (we are not sure yet so we want to go and try to live there for a short while, look for jobs and properties etc). We will be staying in my parent's house as we do not have a house of our own in SA. What I want to know is, when i apply for a relative Visa, do i need a letter from my parents to say that we will be staying in their house?
Also, there is a question about providing A statement and/or documentation confirming the purpose and duration of your visit. Do i have to know for sure how long we are going to stay?
How can phrase our purpose of stay to them?
