Biometric Residence Permits
Everyone applying to extend their leave in the UK as a Tier 1 (General) migrant must apply for a biometric immigration document – also known as a Biometric Residence Permit.
As part of this application process a migrant must make arrangements to have his/her biometric features recorded

For applications within UK, does the above statement apply only for people who are currently on Tier 1(G) and looking to extend their stay in the same immigration category or does this also apply to people switching from other immigration categories into Tier 1(G)? My doubt has crept due to the fact that applicants switching into Tier 1(G) will be making their initial applications in this category, however, they are also extending their stay in UK by switching. Hence the doubt.
