Question: I am in the UK, my partner is not

Post by lagitane » Sat Jan 29, 2011 12:44 pm

I'm wondering if anyone can help me figure out where to begin...

I am a UK citizen who has been living overseas for 8 years, and have been with my non-UK partner (same sex) for 3.5 years. I recently took a job in the UK and had to move back here on very short notice, not allowing us time to look into visa issues before I came.

I now want to instigate the process to bring my partner to the UK but am completely confused as to how to even initiate the visa application because we are in different locations. Does she have to apply from her location or can I do it from here? Do we both have to be outside the UK to apply? Can she enter the UK on another type of visa (she is Australian) and then apply?

If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it as I am feeling very confused and discouraged. I never imagined upon taking this job that it would be so complicated!

Thanks in advance for your help.
