proud to be British

Post by ezh » Wed Mar 08, 2006 2:26 pm

It's happened eventually - I became a British Citizen yesterday, after almost 9 years of living and working in the UK. I could apply for citizenship 4 years ago but did it only recently - my decision was well thought through and I want to say that I am proud to be a part of such a great nation.

Thank you guys!

Rogerio, mine was a ceremony for 20 people and surprisengly for me many of them were from the US and ... Japan. Overall it was an exciting experience. Planning to apply for a passport now...

Especially Japan, as I believe (correct me if Im wrong) that they do not accept dual nationality, so I suppose they're giving up on their Japanese nationality...Im glad Brazil does accept dual nationality. I am not sure I would have done it if I had to give up my own. But I understand that circumstances are different for different people.

I have a few (good) American friends who naturalised Irish or British recently....

Anyway, Im rambling.

Congratulations again, Im very happy for you.

Congratulations ezh on being British.

Don't forget, assuming you are not already on it as say a Commonwealth citizen(?), get yourself on to the electoral roll!

If you move fast you can get yourself a vote in the local elections on 4th May. To register to vote, go to this webpage and follow the instructions. As it says on the Electoral Commission website :-
Make sure you are registered to vote by 13 March to have your say.
-: if you want a vote on 4th May.

Thank you John,

I have already downloaded a form and will try to be in time for the local elections!

Rogerio,
my country of origin allows us multiple nationality too so I am keeping my original by de facto
