Sub: Application for change of Visa Type to Tier 1- General category for
xxxxxxxxxxx

Dear Madam/Sir,
Please find enclosed my application for leave to remain in the UK under Tier 1 general category for myself as detailed under. I am currently a work permit holder (worker ref no xxxxxx) and would like to switch into Tier 1 (General). I am enclosing the following documents all in Originals for your perusal.

1) Envelope no 1: Application form (Tier 1 General version 10/09) duly filled in with photographs for Main Applicant, Xxxxxxxx, along with printout of self assessment from the web based points assessment tool.
2) Envelope no 2: containing British postal orders number xxxxxxxx up to xxxxxxxx in favour of home office totaling GBP 850.
3) Envelope no 3: Original pay-slips from xxxxxxxxx for the period under consideration
4) Envelope no 4: Original Bank Statements (Account Number xxxxxxxx) in my name showing salary credits for the period under consideration. This statement also serves as my proof of maintenance funds. One page (page 11 ) is duplicate and is certified by my bank in the bottom right hand corner.
5) Envelope number 5: Original Degree certificates and transcripts from xxxxxxxxxxx This qualification can be found in the points based database.
6) Envelope number 6: A NARIC letter certifying that the qualification is equivalent to a xxxxxxxx – this is to meet the stipulation that in addition to being found on the points database, the qualification should at least be equal to a Bachelor’s degree, for the purpose of meeting the English language proficiency requirement.
7) Envelope number 7: (containing a letter of confirmed employment from Xxxxxxxx Bank PLC in support of my claiming points for previous UK experience. This letter shows that I have been employed by Xxxxxxxx from xxxxxxxxxx onwards.
8) Envelope no 8: <Nationality> passport no xxxxxxxx. This certifies my nationality, age and current leave to remain.
9) Envelope No 9: My original work permit (worker ref no xxxxxxxxx) which certifies my current leave to remain
10) A self-addressed and postage paid special delivery envelope. I would request you to use this envelope to send my passport and originals back to me.




I would request you to process my application and return it in the special delivery envelope enclosed.

why are you putting everything in separate envelopes??

It was all in one giant envelope but in different packets - just better organized that way and easy to cross reference. This is not compulsory, just something that I found very useful.

I think you are creating unnecessary administrative work for yourself and the UKBA by placing things in separate packets/envelopes which they will probably just discard when the receive your application

It depends on how you look at it - I looked at the forum in detail and my inference is that my processing time has easily been the shortest time of all contributing members (the passport return time on average seems to be 2 weeks after the biometrics were registered. That means the total processing time is a function of how soon they send you the biometric letter because the time after that is more or less constant unless you have a complex application. I got my biometric letter just ten days after sending my application)

Maybe it was just luck and maybe the case officer was in a good mood, but to me it looks like the extra organization did no harm (valid inference right ?)

As I said - am just telling you what I think helped me. Feel free to ignore it.
