US citizen Moving to UK

Post by myoracledba2 » Sun Mar 26, 2006 5:31 pm

I'm US citizen working in the software industry for the last 12 plus years in USA.

My company is going to apply for my work permit soon. Can my application be denied ?
What will work permit will provide me?
Can I stay forever in UK? or what is the procedure to get a UK green card ?

Thanks

---> Yes there is no success guarantee. However, if the application is properly made and satisifies all the relevant requirements then there are good chances of approval.

What will work permit will provide me?
---> The ability to work in the UK for a specified employer in a specified position for the duration of the permit.

---> After five years of continuous stay in the UK as a WP holder (with or without future HSMP periods) you can apply for ILR (permanent residence status).

What else I can do to stay in UK if I lost my work permit before 5 years period ?
Do you qualify for HSMP? If so you could switch to that. HSMP would enable you to work in UK without requiring a Work Permit .... total freedom to work for anyone.

Lots of detail on this Board about HSMP ... a whole section devoted to it.

Very cheekily I might say .... learning English! After all, if this all works out, six years down the line you will be eligible to apply for Naturalisation as British ..... and you would want to know how to spell Naturalisation wouldn't you! (No this is not a serious comment!)
