In a BBC interview, Mr Clegg said "It is not Government policy to pursue a fixed numerical target."

I wonder, what will happen on May 6th, 2011 as most of the lib-dems will be wiped out from the council's and to top it all, if they lose AV as well.

Two possibilities:

1) The Lib Dems will actually get more of what they want as they'll have to give more to keep the coalition together

2) The coalition breaks up, less policy gets through anyway while they work out whether to call a general election.

Either way - probably good for immigration in that scenario.

"The aftermath of May 5th will be the biggest test so far of the coalition’s togetherness, and perhaps of Mr Clegg’s grip on his party. Even if it is passed, next year will be just as hard, as spending cuts bite."
