Hi All,
I got Tier1 General Visa starting from 27th Mar 2009. In Feb this year I arrived in UK on long term assignment. In salary slips I received till now, NI contribution is nil so I asked payroll department why NI contribution is nil. I got response from Payroll dept saying that NI contribution will be deducted only after completing 52 weeks in UK. I have to apply for extension in Feb 2012 so by that time I wont have any NI contribution. Will no NI contribution affect my extension application if yes how I can avoid any damage?
Second Query: NI Number is not mentioned on my salary slips so is it mandatory to have NIN on each salary slip?
Could anyone answer my queries please?

- This is correct. Expatriates are allowed the first 52 weeks of NO NI.
Will no NI contribution affect my extension application

NI may be payable, it does depend whether the worker is a posted worker or not, ordinarily resident in the UK or not, and so on............

I have further query in which category I'll fall according to Regulation 145(2) SSCR 2001. Regulation 145(2) SSCR 2001 says
This regulation provides exemption from the payment of primary and secondary Class 1 NICs for posted workers arriving in GB a continuous period of 52 contribution weeks provided the worker is
not ordinarily resident in GB ; and
not ordinarily employed in GB ; and
in pursuance of an employment that is mainly outside the UK ;
by an employer with a place of business outside the UK ; and
is employed for a time in GB as an employed earner
The exemption lasts until the employee has been resident in GB for a continuous period of 52 weeks starting from the beginning of the contribution week following the week in which the worker arrives in GB to take up employment.
My detail as follows:
Date of T1 visa stamping: 27-Mar-2009
Date of T1 visa expiry: 27-Mar-2012
I came to UK from India on long term assignment on 7th Feb 2011 and I am getting my salary in GBP because this is transfer from Indian Org to UK Org on company intra transfer. There is no end date of assignment as far as I am eligible to work in UK. I am planning to apply for extension at the end of Feb 2012 so by that time I'll complete 12 months in UK without any NI contribution. So in the given scenario not contributing to NI will affect my extension application?

I got visa extension without any issue though I didn't pay NI for first year in UK.
