Hi
I'm a British citizen by descent and came to the UK (for the first time) in November last year. My husband is Pakistani and came here 3 weeks before me on Tier-1 general migrant work permit. We have a son who was born this month and people have been telling me to apply for child benefit for him. I'm wondering if it would affect my husband's chances of changing his visa to Spousal visa (We intend to settle in the UK). Also, I'm not working and haven't worked in the UK at all. My husband is earning for our family. How would it affect his application?
Hope I haven't posted in the wrong forum.
Thanks,
Maryam

I have split your post, so it now has its own topic.

A claim for Child Benefit will have no impact upon a visa application to be made by your husband. And what about Tax Credits? Have you considered claiming those as well as Child Benefit? The answer probably depends upon how much your husband is earning.

When does your husband intend to use form FLR(M) to switch to a spouse visa? It is a shame he did not apply for that in Pakistan, rather than the Tier 1G.
