Family permit issue

Post by Kristof » Tue Aug 16, 2011 7:44 pm

Hi guys!

Quick question. 1)My wife and our 7 months old baby are going to join me in the UK. Do we need to fill seperate application for our 7mc old son ?
2) They gonna apply in Kiev where UK border agency cooperates with VSA Global. They told us that Family permit will cost us couple of hundrets. Have they right to put some fees on us as UK border agency website says that FP is free of charge?

Thank you!
Regards!

EEA family permits are issued free of charge but private visa agencies can apply a handling fee. Are you applying directly or using a third party service? I would suggest that you apply directly to the visa application centre. The VAC (VFS Global) is not a third party and is not permitted to charge for EEA Permits.

Fees?

Post by nonspecifics » Tue Aug 16, 2011 9:52 pm

It says on their website free of charge - near the bottom under the OTHERS section.

http://www.ukvac-ru.com/visafees.aspx

EEA
Family member of an EEA national Free of charge
Family member of a Swiss national Free of charge

At the bottom of tthe VFS Global website it warns:

Please note: ukvisas.ru is not connected, nor sanctioned, by the UK Border Agency at the British Embassy in Moscow or by the UK Border Agency (formerly UKvisas). This site and the websites above are the only official sources of information about UK policy and visas.

There is also perhaps the same sort of problem in the UK (and maybe elsewhere) of EHIC card applications that charge processing fees on third-party websites - that look like official Govt. websites - when it can easily be obtained free of charge from the NHS ( for the UK EHIC).

Do you want to pay for something the law requires to be free of charge?

Is the baby not an EEA national? If not, I think, a separate form must be filled including part 7.

Hello

I would definitely ask them to explain why it says on their website the application is free and yet they are trying to charge you and also mention that you will also query this with the British Embassy visa section - as VFS are only hired agents.

The VAf5 form has several sections on the EEA FP for children travelling with the main applicant.

But, on the VAF general guidance notes:

"4.19 Please list any of your children who will be travelling with
you to the UK?

Please note that any children travelling with you may also need a visa.
If they need a visa, they will have to complete their own application
form."
