ILR on Long Residence and Workpermit

Hi all,

I need some advice on ILR based on Long Residence and workpermit, my 10 years are coming up in july 2007 and 5 years on workpermit coming up in Dec 2007.

What I am not sure about for long residence is the maximum time that you are allowed to be out of uk at any one time, is it 6 months or 3 months? The home office website states 6 months but I have read and heard from people that it is 3 months, so is it 6 or 3.

Also based on workpermit is there a time limit for absence?

For application on the basis of a work permit holder, the general rule is that absences abroad should not be more than 3 months continuously and they must not amount to more than 6 months in total during your period of residence in the UK as a WP holder.

Under the long residence rule, you should not have been outside the UK for longer than 6 months in any one time. You should not have been outside the UK for more than 18 months in total during the last 10 years.

In both cases, you must be able to demonstrate that your period of absence is temporary and that you have the intention of returning to the UK.
