Do I have to present a UK bank statement for tier 1 visa ext

Post by omarsharif72 » Wed Oct 19, 2011 7:18 pm

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I wish that you're having a great day.

I have a Tier 1 general visa, dated 17 October 2011 and I'm preparing the
documents to extend my visa 4 weeks before the end date of it.
My question is do you accept the combination of a letter from employer (In
Egypt) and original bank statement from HSBC Bank (in Egypt) as an evidence
for the previous earnings?

My case is that I'm currently employed in Egypt and we have money transfer
restrictions after the revolution that happened in my home country Egypt.
So, I don't transfer the money to the UK and consequently I won't be able to
present a bank statement from a British Bank that show my salary transfer.

So, do you accept bank statements from banks other than those in the UK ? or
I should have the proof of income from the UK?

I appreciate taking time to answer my vital question very much.

Thanks& Best Regards

Money held in a bank in Egypt is fine. Read the guidance to know what evidence if required to show this.

Yes, bank statements and payslips can be of any currency. You need to convert it from Egyptian pounds to British pounds in order to claim points

The guide will explain what exchange rate to use.

On the home office site it says the following, regarding Tier 1 extension.
Are you in an eligible immigration category?

You can apply to extend your stay in the UK under Tier 1 (General) if you are already in the UK with permission to stay (known as 'leave to remain') in one of the following immigration categories:

highly skilled migrant
writer, composer or artist
self-employed lawyer
Tier 1 (General)
Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP), if you are eligible to switch into Tier 1 (General).

If you are not in one of the categories above, you cannot apply to Tier 1 (General).
My case is similar. I have a Tier 1 expiring in Jan 2012. I am working in Switzerland and accumulate more then 95 points ..

Now the question is, Living outside UK, having the adequete points required, can I still apply for the extension of Tier 1 ?, If no, is there a way around, like coming to UK for a weeks time or somthing ?

Omar : Did you talk to the authorities. I guess u would have similar questions as well .. or are you clear on it ?[/quote]

You will need to enter the UK and make your application there. You can use your earnings from outside the UK.

Thanks for the reply Lucapooka.

Does that means that I get ready with all the documents, fill out the visa extension form, land in UK, go to the Home office and apply.

Well then very well, I could just send out the form to some of my friend in London, who can just apply on my behalf ?. Please suggest.

You have to be in the UK to apply for an extension, you cannot get someone else to apply on your behalf - or would your friend also give his biometrics on your behalf?

Hello mulderpf,

What I meant was, that I could also apply in the UK embassy in Switzerland ?

"Extension" can only be applied for from within the UK.
