Hi All,
I got work permit in October 2007 from a health organisation. My skills are database application development using SQL Server, C#, VB.Net and i was given work permit to develop database solutions and integrate different database into a single server and create a centralised reporting system. Everything was going fine but my line manager changed in June 2009.
He is not an IT person and in a result he stopped my database work and started given me other kind of work which is not my job description and any one with a little bit of compuer knlwledge can do this like updating sharepoint, administring a content management system and writing very simple process documents etc.
Now i am really concerned about my future because i am feeling that i have been deskilled as in these years i have done a very little in database (not more then 02 months in all).
I have been raising my concerns to my line manager and to head of our department. They always promise that database work will start soon but it never happened. Now i have raised this concern officially and my line manager has spoken to HR and they say that home office will not have any concern if i am not working on my job description.
My question is that can i complain to home office because home office gave me work permit to use the skills not everybody has got but i am doing the work which anyone can do plus i have been deskilled and feeling a lot of stress about it.
Seeking for your help
Regards

what are you hoping to achieve by complaining to the UKBA about this problem? Would you like them to contact your employer and force them to give you database work? or is the intention to your employer in trouble with the UKBA?

This is a matter for discussion between you, your line manager, department head and HR.
It is neither immigration related issue nor of relevance for UKBA. UKBA doesn't decide the job you should be doing .. your employer does ... and applies for sponsorship that UKBA grants if the specified requirements are met.
And do appreciate that complaining to UKBA may make your relationship with your employer even worse. And the employer may terminate your sponsorship.
Discuss it internally within the organisation and arrive at an amicable solution.

My main aim is to get back to my database field and possible to some refresher courses. One thing i forgot to mention that there is still huge amout of database work outstanding in the organisation.
My intention are definitely not to put my employer under undue trouble but i don't want to let anybody to put my future in toruble by deskilling me

thanks for your reply but i have been doing this from past two and half years without any success. just now when i raised the question i found two links stating that work permit holder should do the role stated in the work permit. the links are below:
Parliment Link
http://www.publications.parliament.uk/p ... 2/8219.htm
Home Office Link
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas ... onditions/
any thoughts on this?

It is not UKBA's responsibility to make sure that you do the job for which sponsorship has been granted. It is your employer's!! UKBA cannot direct your employer to make you work in the "your own field".
You need to take into consideration the other possible effect of your complaint to UKBA - termination of your sponsorship / leave and a warning to your employer. Trust me, your position then will be worse than (what you think it is) now.
Options:
1. Sort out matters internally.
2. Search for a new job with a new employer who may be ready to sponsor you.
3. Look for jobs in home country / outside UK where employment prospects in "your field" may be better than they are in the UK.
Life isn't fair, but you can be!

Yep i understand what you mean. That's why i was asked the question in this forum.
I will again try to speak to my line manager and i will involve HR and a member of trade union this time. If the result is still the same then i may go to court with the point that my future has been destroyed by deskilling me.
I understand that i might have to leave the country but i think i should fight for my rights regardless of the outcome and consequences.
any way thanks a lot for your help and suggestions
kind regards
