What are my options?

Post by mauricetmk » Thu Nov 17, 2011 1:59 am

My current visa (post study work visa Tier 1) is running out at the end of next month, me and my girlfriend been talking about getting married so that I could stay in the country.

With such short timing, will I have to leave the UK and get married abroad, and then apply for a marriage visa, or will i be able to stay in the UK for the time being?

P.S However I do not feel its the right time to get married just yet, we are both serious about this relationship but getting married is tad bit early (due to our financial situation), I've been looking into civil partnership however it is for gay couples only if i'm correct, so if anyone could give me any advice I would be greatly appreciated.

I've been in this relationship for more than 2 yeas now.
Don't want it to sound like "oh he just wanna stay in the UK"
ATM I'm just exploring our options, we may even move abroad if things don't work out here, but her family is in the UK and that's my main concern..
Thanks again

Assuming your girlfriend to be either a British citizen or settled person, you may marry (if you wish to marry, that is) in the UK .. before your current leave expires ... and then apply for leave to remain (FLR(M)) from within the UK before your current leave expires.
Life isn't fair, but you can be!
