PR advice please

Post by CYS » Mon Jan 16, 2012 4:35 pm

Hello - just thought I'd ask for some early advice!

I will apply for PR in October this year, my husband (EU national) and I will have been married 5years then (I hold a South African passport). I obtained my first EEA FP in November 2007 (valid for 6 months) in South Africa from the British Consulate. Came back to the UK December 2007, and both my husband and I have been working continuously for this time. I applied for my RC in March 2008 (via lawyers), but due to the long delays this was issued to me January 2009 - there were sever delays in 2008 with these applications. This RC is valid until Jan 2014.

Is my application for PR straightforward? And is it a 'free' visa? We'll have all the relevant documentation, pay slips, tax certificates etc as we've worked continuously for the full period. Do I still need to provide proof of living together, other than tenancy agreements? Like utility bills etc? Or do I just need to provide his latest pay slips/tax slips/employment contracts etc?

Also, when can I apply? Shortly before we are married 5 years or shortly thereafter? Also, is the next step then British Citizenship, after 12 months on this visa?

TIA for any advice :-)

Was Dec '07 the date of your 1st entry to the UK as the family member of a EU national? If so then you will acquire PR automatically in Dec '12 and can therefore apply towards the end of Nov.

Hi Plum70
Thanks for your reply - just double checked first entry back into the UK as a family member of EU national was 19 Nov so i'll apply just before then shall I? I started working again actually 22 Nov so it all should tie up now that I think about it.
Do i stay 12 months on PR then apply for british passport? :-)

No, after 12 you can apply for naturalization as British Citizen.
