Question RE: previous denied visa; want to visit

Post by frmrpreztaft » Thu Feb 23, 2012 1:45 pm

First off, let me say, TONS of information here. Great forum you've got :)

Now, on to my question:

My wife and I are US citizens. Last year, my wife applied to grad school in the UK, was admitted, and granted a student visa. However, my visa was denied on the grounds that i had an unspent misdemeanor conviction. While i may not agree with my visa being denied (re: spent/unspent convictions that occurred outside the UK), I do understand the technicalities of why my visa was denied.

I've been to the UK on holiday before, previous to my conviction. I'd like to visit the UK again for a short period of time (+/- 7 days). Will having a denied visa stamp in my passport grant me an instant deny at customs in the UK? If i provide such information as strong ties to the US (i.e., letter from employer), return plane ticket, hotel reservation, and adequate funds am i likely to be allowed into the country on holiday?

Thanks in advance!

I would suggest you pre-apply for visit entry clearance. This will remove any doubt about you being refused entry on arrival.

With a previous denial, you're unlikely to be granted entry into the UK without a visa.
